Monday Morning VIBGYOR... @

Ever heard of Monday Morning Blues?? Well, this morning it was not only the "blues" that gave me company, but I had with me the entire rainbow.. Yeah, Monday Morning VIBGYOR!

Man, being a Software Engineer is hell! Another week of staring in front of this dumb machine that doesnt even know what it is supposed to do.. Another week of pointers and Segmentation faults! GRRRR!!!! I hate Mondays! And to top it all, this week has no holidays.. Hang on, let me check my calendar when the next holiday is... Yikes! March 25th! CRAP! NO HOLIDAY THIS
ENTIRE MONTH!!! Oh No!

I came into the canteen this morning for breakfast and for the first time I got this urge to see how my co-employees were on a Monday Morning! After taking a good quick glance around the cafeteria one word came to my mind. ZOMBIES! Tired, sleepless people about to drop to their knees were all that I could see.. And this after a 2 day weekend! Poor Poor Software
Engineers... I am not sure if only we feel this way or if it is the case with people from other professions, but one thing is for sure..... I HATE MONDAYS!

And, yeah, did I tell you that I had a crappy weekend... Now,that made this monday even worse. My Laptop has spent more time this year in the service center than with me... How cool is that?? After the 6th visit to the service center this year (Jan alone), i brought my laptop back. It worked super cool for 2 hours.. (A good 2 hours) and all of a sudden it just went *PLONK*. The darn thing just shut down and now it wouldnt boot. When i woke up this morning I remembered that I had to take a 20 km detour on my way to the office to go to the HP service center to get my laptop serviced again. For those who know Bangalore, I am put up at E-City, my office is at Whitefield and the service center is in IndraNagar.. Grr.. I thought the better of it! I didnt want to start an already daunting week on a bad note! I put off my visit to HP by a day and came to the office. Here, I have been staring at this DELL machine from morning trying to implement some stooooopid algorithm!!!

After being a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fanatic all along, i couldnt wait to get my hands on the sequel.. Well, whether it is a sequel or not is open for debate, but after a pretty long time, by my standards, i laid my hand on the first few episodes only yesterday. Yup, "Joey" was on.... (on my computer, that is)...

Not sure if it is just me, but i didnt find Joey that amusing in his own show. I guess i am not out of the FRIENDS mood as yet, but even still, there definitely was something missing.

The actress featuring as Joey's sister was definitely not the best choice... They should have got someone who would "look" like Joey's sister.. She is far from it!

Further, i felt that the episodes end too abruptly. I was watching episode 2 and as I was expecting something more to happen, BANG!, the credits come up!

As many people have been saying, the show could definitely get a shot in the arm if some of the FRIENDS pop in now and then into the show..

The kid playing Joey's nephew is good. Matt and that guy are the two highlights of the current show..

One of the note-worthy points of FRIENDS was the theme music. The single by the Remembrants was something to Remember always. But, the current theme song of Joey doesnt match up to the one that the FRIENDS had got. Guess it will take some getting used to...

But all this said, i watched only 4 episodes (the first 4) and am not sure how the remaining are.. Have they improved as the show progressed, i do not know and I am eagerly searching through my Local Area Network scanning each and every computer for the videos..

Cheating Google... @

As I have already made it clear with a few of my previous posts like this one and this one, my interest in Google is tremendous. And hence, my interest in finding the shortcomings of Google and its algorithm is obvious. The Google algorithm can be found at this location: http://www-db.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html .

One glaring let down of the algorithm was the number of opportunities given to the induvidual user to improve his own site's Page-Rank by "back-linking" to his own website at places that provide him with the opportunity to do so. Such places would include the comments section of blogs, website guestbooks, testimonial pages, user profile pages and such. These places generally ask for the user to enter his "website address" and they link back to it. Hence, the user "illegally" gets a part of the pagerank weight of the referring page attributed to his page. This reduces the accuracy with which the page rank would ultimately work... And, i was surprised that Google wasnt doing anything about it..... Until now.

Google has come up with a new tag attribute-value pair called "rel = nofollow" that can be included in the "anchor" tag . When the spider sees this "rel = nofollow" attribute-value pair, that particular page is not indexed and hence the obvious spam attempt is negated. Hey Ppl... Long time no blog! No time actually..

I have just finished by first week at my job!! I actually did it.. Yippeee... Life is good and the job (till now) seems to be pretty nice.. But of all ironies, I have been put on CORBA using C++ on Linux - I being a Socket Programmer using Java on Windows. Well, guess that is how things are.. but hey(!!), i get to learn something new.. So, that far I am happy..

Have started eating a lot these days.... dunno whatz happened to me!

Looking forward to this weekend... Planning to sleep and sleep and sleep..

More when i wake up!

Hai there guys... Here is wishing you all a very happy new year. May all your dreams come true..

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for me.. Will be joining my company tomorrow and I will officially start "working". So, lets see how that goes..

Btw, people have been saying that my blog doesnt display too well on Internet Explorer. I am not sure. I'll check that out. But i need to admit that i configured the settings such that it looked good on Mozilla..
