Petals around the rose @
By Whoosh 2 @ 9:07 am      0 Comments
Today i found myself playing Petals around a rose. I would suggest you click the link to find out what i am talking about..

It was just amazing that when u have a challenge, the brain starts to think in all sorts of funny ways. My brain came up with atleast 25 solutions and to my embarassment i found that i had got them all wrong! My 26th attempt brought out the correct answer, and boy!, was i satisfied when i knew the solution to it. The best part of this game is that no one else tends to give out the solution.. So, either u find it out by yourself.. or you dont!

This apparently was a game that put Bill Gates in a fix! There is an article about that here. Check it out, it will make an interesting reading..

Alrite then,
Cherio.

Please OPEN the Window! The Penguin needs to come in!! @
By Whoosh 2 @ 12:50 pm      3 Comments
I got my first computer sometime in the early 1990s. All that i knew was that Appa (Daddy) had brought a machine home on which i could play that lovely car game that i just adored. And i didnt care about anything else. I mugged up a few DOS commands to get me into the game and that was it.. But after a while it got boring and i wanted to know what that black screen full of characters was!  1 year hence i mastered DOS and i was proud of it as i had done it by myself! I took an inherent liking towards Microsoft!

Slowly in mid-1996 i got my first real upgrade. Windows 95 was installed on my system **cool** though i didnt know why i needed another thing (an operating system) when i had good old MSDOS on which i could play all my super games (Indy, Jurassic Park and what not). Little did i know that i was getting moulded into the computer engineer i would one day be from then on! Windows 95 was really nice. I still remember the lovely little "file manager" that would take me where i want and the cute little white colored mouse which made my Win95 experience that much more entertaining.

Then came Windows 98 and i was an ardent Windows fan then.  Sometime in 2000, i heard a word called Linux. Whatever that was!!! I just have a passing rememberance of that day. I read it in a book called "Chip" that i bought. It carried this article about how Linux was "taking over the world". Silly - I thought. But i installed the free software just for the heck of it on my machine and tried to work my magic (i recalled my MSDOS days when i saw the console). My first impression was that LINUX WAS HARD!!!!  But thankfully, i had some Unix experience, so i was able to cope up. Still, after using Windows, Linux was like putting me 10 years back.. Whats so nice about this OS that the whole world is talking about??  Obviously, i was too naive at that point!

4 years hence, i feel that Linux is probably the best thing that is happening to the community. I never thought that i would say that, but i guess it is true. Make no mistake. I am still a Microsoft fan, and that is the reason i am so interested in the rise of Linux. Here is the OS that could put my dear Windows out of existence!

But honestly speaking, i feel that Windows has just too many bugs in it. The reason why Linux is so stable is because so many hackers and programmers  are constantly testing the code and modifying it to make it robust. This, unfortunately is not the case with Windows. If i could ever meet Bill Gates, i would tell him "OPEN the WINDOW please. let the PENGUIN come in!".This by no way means that Microsoft needs to go to the drain. All that i am saying is, if Microsoft would release its code for the Windows OS and follow the Linux model, then Windows would transform itself into a much better Operating System. But, Microsoft would never do it, I know :( .

I myself am slowly going the Linux way... but still somewhere down there.. Microsoft is still there..

I am going to sleep now..

Start -> Turn off Human Body -> Hibernate!

My Life! @
By Whoosh 2 @ 9:01 am      2 Comments
I was in Landmark a couple of days back and i was really surprised at what i saw...

I knew that Mr.Bill Clinton had brought out his book titled "My Life" and that it was doing good business. What amased me was that even after two to three months after the release of the book, there was such a huge queue waiting to buy the book... Like come on Man, that person was just the President of the United States. So what? It is not that he is some kind of a martyr or something that people need to queue up to buy his book and read it.  To top the fact, most people are buying the book to read about the Monica affair. Excuse Me!! Do we really need to know about the dirty personal life of a foreign President?? Buddies, there is a lot more work out there to be done..So, get a life!

And here is the most funny part.. I move to the next shelf and our beloved Arnold Swazzeneger has also come out with his book (just because he is governor!!!).
